Technical Introduction of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)
LIBS spectrometers are very similar to atomic emission spectroscopy. It is used for qualitative and quantitative spectral analysis of elements. When a high-power pulsed laser is focused on the surface of a test sample, a small amount of material is ablated and excited to create a plasma. At the end of the laser pulse, the plasma rapidly diffuses and cools. During this time, atoms and ions in excited states migrate from high-energy states back to low-energy states and emit characteristic spectral radiation. By analyzing the emission spectrum with a spectrometer, the type and corresponding content of elements in the material can be obtained. LIBS technology is called "the star of future chemical analysis" because it does not require complicated sample preparation, is almost non-destructive, fast and safe, especially for the detection of light elements such as carbon, lithium and silicon.
Typical applications of LIBS technology: ChemCam on the Curiosity rover and SuperCam on the Innovation rover.
Lithium Application
With the rapid development of the new energy industry, the demand for lithium has surged, and the exploration and development of lithium mines are increasing rapidly around the world.Since traditional on-site analysis instruments such as handheld XRF cannot directly identify lithium ore,on-site detection of lithium ore has always been a difficult problem. The launch of Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometer has brought a new method to lithium ore exploration, which greatly improves the work efficiency of lithium ore exploration.
Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometer is light in size, the overall weight is only 1.8KG, and the body is small and light. It adopts advanced high-power miniaturized nanosecond laser technology, combined with self-developed advanced spectral denoising, PLS, PCA and other intelligent algorithms. Operators can use it on site after a brief training to quickly complete the qualitative and quantitative analysis of lithium content in lithium ores, such as spodumene, lepidolite, granite, Lith phosphorite, etc.
Lithium Battery Application
The powerful light atom analysis capability of LIBS plasma spectroscopy technology enables Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometer to accurately measure the lithium content in lithium battery materials.
Such as lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, lithium iron phosphate and ternary materials (high polymers of nickel, cobalt and manganese) and even mixtures of various battery materials.
LIBS analysis does not require complex sample preparation processes, nor does it require the deployment of various chemical reagents. Traditional analysis techniques, whether it is lithium ore or lithium battery materials, require the use of laboratory chemical analysis or ICP equipment and flame atomic absorption spectroscopy to complete the quantitative analysis of lithium elements.
High-Capacity Li-ion Battery and Fast Charger
Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometers are supplied with a universal DC power adapter for power supply for uninterrupted operation. It is also equipped with three high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, each of which can provide up to 4 hours of battery life, ensuring continuous operation throughout the day.
Mini Argon Cylinder
Argon is one of the most important consumables in lithium measurement applications. The Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometer is supplied with a small, disposable argon gas cylinder that lasts for approximately 50 measurements.
If the customer purchases regular argon gas cylinders, the Pegasus Handheld Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometer can use a 250ml refillable argon gas cylinder, which can last for 3000 measurements.
Laser Safety
The tip of the instrument is equipped with a laser safety interlock button. It needs to be pressed or covered to allow the laser to fire. This helps prevent accidental firing of the laser. The excitation source adopts Class 3B low-power high-performance safe pulse laser, 1064nm all-solid-state, passive Q-switched laser, and the pulse output is adjustable.
Built-in HD camera
The built-in camera can clearly observe the surface condition of the tested material. Due to the unevenness of the ore surface, in order to ensure the accuracy of the laser focal length, we should try to place the laser test point in a relatively flat surface area.
Portable Bluetooth Printer
A Portable Bluetooth Printer is a useful accessory that is unique to Pegasus handheld laser induced breakdown spectrometers. It can directly print test results within seconds. Adhesive-backed thermal paper can be placed on top of the test material for long-term record keeping.
Unique Industrial Design
It adopts advanced empirical coefficient algorithm, combined with unique patented vibration optical path detection technology. The detection technology of penetrating laser ablation, reciprocating ablation in the axial direction of the sample, ablation of pollutants and oxide films on the surface of the sample. Sample signals at a deeper level can be analyzed to obtain the most accurate spectral information.
